Volunteer of the Week: Stephanie Branson (September 29, 2022)
Help us in congratulating Stephanie Branson as this week's New Song Volunteer of the Week! Stephanie helps out on our Events Team and has just agreed to become our new Sunday Morning Cafe coordinator!
Stephanie is married to Ben, and they have two adult daughters. A registered nurse by trade, Stephanie is always looking for ways to help others. Stephanie has been involved in our church's journey for many years and assists in welcoming others with a warm, caring smile. She is thoughtful, has been involved in missions and our small group ministries, and even participated in our recent card-making group! Thank you, Stephanie, for all you do: we appreciate you! |
Volunteer of the Week: Peggy Meek (September 15, 2022)
Not long ago, Peggy walked down the aisle and said, "I do" to the man of her dreams, Kevin. They blended their families and ended up moving around the bend to the Short Pump area... but Peggy never let up in her resolve to serve. We owe Peggy so many rounds of applause when considering all she does in ministry and assistance to our New Song!
Peggy is a Registered Nurse and the proud mother and grandmother to some of the world's finest. She assists by coordinating not only our Community Blood Drive - but she also leads our Meal Team, providing meals to those who've recently come through surgery, a birth, death, or other major life transition. We tried calculating the number of meal requests Peggy has coordinated through the "Take Them A Meal" website: it was well over 100. We tried calculating how many units of blood she has coordinated... how many lives have been saved and how many new persons have participated from the community. It was quickly calculated to be in the hundreds, as well. Peggy: we love your heart for Jesus, for serving, and for just being one of the kindest people the world's ever known! THANKS for all you do and all you are! |
Volunteer of the Week: Sherry Boyett (September 1, 2022)
Not only is Sherry a Registered Nurse (VCU) and Mom of two sons, she's also a community hero here at New Song! Sherry serves on our Event's Team, she helps with VBS, and has been a dynamic member of our First Impressions Team. Sherry has also traveled with our team on our overseas mission trips - what a blessing to have Nurse Sherry along!
Sherry is a friend to many, participates in our small group ministries, and has a can-do spirit that we so appreciate. Sherry's smile brightens the room and the day, and she's amazingly compassionate, hard-working, and constantly dedicated. Sherry: we are blessed by all you do and can't thank you enough! Let's hear it for Sherry B.! |
Volunteer of the Week: Steve Berlinghoff (August 25, 2022)
Join us in thanking Steve Berlinghoff for keeping the beat and helping in so many ways throughout New Song's ministries! Over the years, Steve has served on our Leadership Team, Healthy Church Team, supported our building efforts through contacts for flooring, and: how can we leave off Youth Ministries? Steve is Ms. Lesa's spouse and has been on countless mission trips and participated in everything from leading lessons to being a huge support for so many families and individuals in our community.
Steve is former Army, is a leading expert in the flooring industry, and has two adult daughters (Maddison and Morgan). Together, Steve and Lesa have left an indelible imprint on our ministries through serving alongside God, one another, and so many instances of bringing hope from here to Haiti, the Dominican Republic, and beyond. Steve is also a leading force on our Worship Team as he "brings the heat" with incredible drumming during worship. (You might agree it's almost like watching a workout session when Karen selects up-tempo songs!) Steve - we are grateful for your continued ministries and impact. Thanks so much for your gracious and sincere heart. Three cheers for Mr. Steve! |
Volunteers of the Week: Rick and Amy Talley (August 18, 2022)
Rick and Amy have been members of New Song for many, many years and also happen to be one of our closest neighbors, living just down the road from the church. Rick is a recently-retired Fire Chief for Chesterfield County, an extraordinary chef, and has just recently joined forces to launch the Metro Richmond Flying Squad. The Flying Squad provides wisdom and coaching to active duty firefighters - even cooling chairs and Gatorade! Together, the Flying Squad shows up when needed most and allows the various on-scene agencies to perform at their best. Rick has served in many areas here at New Song: Sunday Morning Cafe, Trustees, and hospitality to name only a few.
Rick and Amy are also real estate agents with Oakstone Properties. Their children and extended family are incredible with many connections here at the church. What a privilege to have watched them grow up right before our eyes. Amy remains a rockstar when it comes to serving Mechanicsville and New Song. She has tirelessly served in Children's Ministries, especially as our Craft Leader for VBS. Amy serves on the Executive Ministries Team and Personnel (SPRT) Team. She has been a Sunday Morning greeter and usher. Amy keeps her finger on the pulse of our ministries and faithfully participates in small groups and worship. THANK YOU both for all you do; let's hear it for Rick & Amy! |

Mary is also gearing up to lead a new Bible Study for women this October for any who might be interested. Mary is also infamous for her work in founding an incredible organization called "My Princess Project." Getting to experience one's Prom can be "out of reach" for many high school students due to the expense of dresses, shoes, accessories, and more. Mary's ministry helps outfit students with the perfect ensemble. Throughout the year, Mary and her team stay busy in seeking out dress donations and allowing for repairs and all preparations. Check out their Facebook page for information on donations or to volunteer today: www.facebook.com/myprincessproject. We appreciate you, Mary! Thanks to you, John, and your incredible team as you bring smiles to countless numbers of students every year! |

He assists with our youth ministries across the board: mission trips, Sunday School, co-leading a boy's small group, and more.
Ben lives close to the church and has used his engineering expertise to help design the original sketches for our new expansion. When our parking lot needs a good smoothing out, or a sidewalk needs shoveling, he's always there. Mr. Ben has no 'stop' and shows up - he keeps going and going. We are incredibly grateful for his servant's heart, constant attention to where God is leading, and all he does to help make New Song its best. Ben and his wife, Stephanie, have two daughters, Sydney and Casey. Next time you see Mr. Ben (and he's often called Mr. Ben as opposed to Ben...!), be sure to give him a high-five and thank him for his many ministries! Thanks, Mr. Ben! |
Volunteer of the Week: KENNY & SHERRY TRAINUM! (March 10, 2022)

Each week, we collect food items for the Backpack Ministry and MCEF. These donations end up leaving our building as wonderful church helpers sneak in (often without notice) and organize them for delivery. Kenny and Sherry Trainum are these mysterious volunteers! Additionally, they hosted our community food drives throughout the pandemic as thousands of pounds of canned goods and non-perishable items were received. They delivered food to many in Mechanicsville, Chesterfield, and Richmond.
Kenny and Sherry are on our Offering Counter's Team. Additionally, Sherry serves on our Executive Ministry Team and is a vital part of our Personnel Team (SPRT). Sherry also served on our "Forward in Faith" efforts. The Trainums frequently stop by to brighten our staff's day and participate in other operations here at the Church. They also serve faithfully at FeedMore each month.
Whether making hundreds of masks or caring for others, we admire the humor and wisdom the Trainums provide every day. We cannot thank them enough for their shared ministries and contagious joy! Kenny & Sherry: we APPRECIATE you!
